About Us

We are a collective of Digital Rights for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) advocates based in and from India, The Netherlands, The UK, and the US, working at the intersections of reproductive justice, SRHR, rights, technology, and freedom of access to digital SRHR information. This collaboration formed in 2024 through connecting in the Digital Rights Community of Practice at Share-Net International, and co-creating a conference session about AlgoSpeak and its relationship to SRHR information and digital suppression.

Mission and Values

AlgoSpeak.net is an educational and awareness-raising project aiming to share information about text-based language used on social media and big tech platforms to circumvent automated content suppression and removals. We are freedom of speech advocates keen to normalise and enable the use of accurate language on platforms, facilitating content creators, educators, and everyday people to talk about topics like sexual and reproductive health and rights, climate crisis, race and identity, disabilities, relationships and other topics that community guidelines and algorithms often automatically sensor, shadowban, and suppress. By providing a dictionary of 'Algorithmic Speak' terms, we intend to raise awareness of the sometimes absurd censorship anyone can experience on social media, big tech, and content-based platforms, and offer an explanation to what algospeak terms actually mean. Through conference sessions, workshops, and open-discussions at gatherings and events, we wish to spread awareness, simultaneously building a crowd-sourced dictionary for everyone to use to decode AlgoSpeak.

About the Digital Rights Community of Practice at Share-Net International

The Digital Rights for SRHR Community of Practice (CoP) was launched in Spring 2024 by Rhian Farnworth at Share-Net International. During multiple conversations at RightsCon 2023 with digital rights practitioners and advocates working on SRHR topics independently or in silos, a need for a community space bringing together individuals working on SRHR topics in the technology and digital rights space was identified. The CoP is formed of around 15 core members, from a wide variety of international organisations working in SRHR, media, strategic litigation, and rights.
